Michael Payton is among a rare and young breed of sponsored athletes who call slacklining their profession. Easily mistaken as tight-rope walking, which involves walking a rigid and taut line, slacklining emerged out of Yosemite National Park in the 1970s when rock climbers began walking on stretchy, bouncy, swaying nylon webbing to pass the time and build balance and strength.
